DiRT & Glitter

Art Adventures

DiRT & Glitter is a genre-defying environmental art organization that marries live performance and outdoor adventure to bring you site-specific productions, films and experiences in wild places. This year we are honored to launch our Youth Art and Adventure Program, funded generously by the Yurok Tribe’s Promise Neighborhood Initiative, serving youth ages 14- 24 living in Del Norte County and adjacent tribal lands.

Welcome!

  • DiRT & Glitter made its debut back in 2022. Founder and Artistic Director, Lauren Godla, had recently moved back home to rural Del Norte County from the Bay Area to take refuge during the pandemic. She fell in love with the ancient forests, wild rivers, mountains and rugged coastline of this magical place all over again. Godla loved her creative community and work as a dance artist and educator during her time in the Bay and wanted to find a way to combine the joy and frivolity of the performance world with the deep wisdom and beauty of the wilderness and thus was born DiRT & Glitter, an environmental art organization working to celebrate our inner and outer wilderness through site-specific performances, films, and events.

“Two Suns” was DiRT & Glitter’s first site-specific performance, which was later made into a film and shared at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival.  Madeline Lawder and Lauren Godla, who met while dancing with Bandaloop, an Oakland Based Vertical Dance Company, danced off the side of a bridge over the South Fork Smith River during a whitewater festival.
